I got the privilege to take out Chaz and his very sweet girlfriend Kelsey for some San Diego bay fishing. We left the dock around 6:30am, swung over to the landings to pick up some fishing licenses, and then headed out for a half day of bay fishing. The bay was calm and quite out compared to the past mornings with all the ship traffic. We did have one ship come into the bay which is always fun to watch. Their size never stops impressing me!
Overall the fishing was what I would call a slow but steady bite. Meaning it never got really good, but they seemed to steadily pick fish off throughout the morning. We ended the day with 4 different species; Spotted Bay Bass, Sand Bass, Lizard Fish and a nice Halibut to round out the mix! With a little friendly competition between Chaz and Kelsey it made things that much more fun! Chaz started with the first fish right off the bat and then never really let Kelsey stay tied with him for very long. At one point Chaz was 2 fish ahead of Kelsey, but despite that it did not discourage or slow Kelsey down! It was a great fishing battle between the two that kept bouncing back and forth with each person taking their turn on pulling in some fish. By the end of the morning Kelsey was able to make a comeback and tie off the tournament with a nice Halibut! We stayed out a bit longer to see if the tie could be broken, but everyone, including myself, kept missing their fish. Either way it was a great day on the water with Chaz and Kelsey! We ended the morning with a bay tour as we headed back to the dock.
