Dave & Michael - Rock Codding

Thursday, January 05, 2012

I had the pleasure to take Dave and Michael Fukuyama back out on another fishing trip, this time for Rockfish. The last time they went out in September we were able to get Michael on his first and biggest fish, a Yellowtail. This time we decided to try for some Rockfish so they would have some tasty food for the grill and experience something new. Well we got to experience quite a bit, from a great sunrise to whales and Dolphins and a bountiful catch! The weather was sunny and in the low 70’s with amazing visibility of the Islands and looking back on San Diego.

We had a good current working with us from the North to the South which always helps. We mostly fished in 350’ of water which turned out to be a good workout for Dave and Michael, as you can imagine. One drop Dave even pulled up two really nice Reds (Vermillions) on one drop! We didn’t limit out, but we ended up with really nice quality of fish with most being in the 4lb range. They still went home with 15-20lbs of some of the best eating fish in the ocean!

A great way to start your day!

The sky had too many colors going on to capture with just one photo.

A nice Vermillion Rockfish that Michael caught.

A “Sunfish” came by the boat to visit us. Always interesting what you see out in the ocean.

Overall a great day on the water for so many reasons. It was a pleasure taking Dave and Michael back out and hopefully our Tuna push in this summer so they get that in as their next trip.

Until my next report, take care and tight lines!
