Well after taking a few weeks off from fishing during the season’s transition I decided to grab a break in the weather and get on the water to see if the Bass were on the chew. With rain all week and more rain in the forecast I decided to risk getting wet and gave Terry a call to see if he wanted to join the party.
The day started calm and crisp with some great sunrise shots a 7am!
We decided to start in our usual spot which always seems to produce at the peak of high tide and as it transitions out. We both through our lines in and grabbed a second rod each to do get another line in the water. Right off the bat the morning started off with a wide open bite with the first five casts producting 5 fish each. I got one cast in with nothing but quickly got back on the catching while Terry kept the “a fish every cast” theme going! Every time we pulled up to the spot we started the same process over again. All of the fish were your typical 1.5lb size with this nice Sand Bass finally making it into the boat for a quick shot and release by Terry.
Soon after I was able to get this quality Spotted Bay Bass for a photo and safe release.
After the bite slowed a bit we decided to look around in some other areas we have marked in the past. Each spot produced a few fish but nothing compared to what we had going first thing in the morning. By around 9:30am the predicted rain had started to roll in but it wasn’t too bad since the wind was calm and we could stand under the T-Top. About a half hour after it started, the wind started which gave us nowhere to hide from the rain, especially when we moved from spot to spot! After a good hour of rain it finally had some breaks in it and the bite turned back on full speed. Finally I was able to hook into a nice Sand Bass to end the day.
Overall it was a great day to be on the water despite the wet weather. The morning bite and the end bite really made the day successful and fun. The bass have moved in and our winter bite has started!
Until the next report, tight lines!
