The Furlow Gang

Thursday, April 02, 2009

I got the oppurtunity to take 3 Texans out fishing while they were visiting San Diego for an Education Board Convention. It was Cody Furlow along with his brother Cade and their friend Rodney who joined me for a full day in San Diego Bay. They arrived not on time, but early! Eager to catch some fish we got going as soon as the boat hit the water. Once again I had noticed the water temp was up a bit more from the last trip which was a good sign. We started out in my usual spot and quickly started pulling in some various Bass. We started off fishing all Reebs Lures with Uni Butter and eventually got one rod down there with bait due to the Halibut that have been showing up. The Bass bite stayed pretty consistent all morning with the sun shining and a light breeze on the water. Just before deciding to drop them off for a bit at Anthony’s restaurant, Rodney got bit hard and started reeling in what looked to be our first Halibut. Sure enough it was a legal Halibut that we carefully netted and quickly released to continue it’s spawning days!

I dropped off the Furlow gang at Anthony’s dock and they stopped to have some food and drinks. In the mean time I cleaned up the boat a bit, tied up new rigs and picked up some beer for the cooler for their return back onto the boat. Just as I finished Cody called to let me know they were ready for pickup. I shot over and got them and we started fishing again. To change the scenery a bit and do some sight seeing for them, we decided to work our way to the back along the Coronado bridge. A few more Bass were caught and released along with a short Halibut. We knocked out a few more fish to call it a day around 4pm. I was able to drop them off at the dock of the Sheraton on the bay where they were staying.

Overall it was a great trip. To fish with this guys was a constant comedy and I hope they make it back out to San Diego again some day!

Until the next report, tight lines!
